The Los Angles Dodgers took on team Australia on Thursday night local time and played out a 4-2 win.
Under the lights of the artificial baseball arena at the SCG the Dodgers put on a show for the mainly empty and inexperienced Australian crowd. The Aussies had something to cheer about when they went 1-0 up in the third thanks to Melbourne Aces’ Brad harman double which led to Mitch Dening to score on a Sac Fly.
The Australian “Southern Thunder” have never been shy of upsets after beating heavyweights Cuba and Japan on their way to a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics and in 2009 the Aussies beat the Seattle Mariners in Mexico.
LA’s right fielder Yasiel Puig broke out of his Spring Training slump with a monster 2 run shot in the 8th inning over the left field wall to give the Dodgers the boost they needed to go on and score all their runs in the same frame.
Adrian Gonzalez came out of the game in the fourth inning with some soreness. He is expected to play at first base for the Dodgers in the games against the D-Backs though on Saturday and Sunday even after only having limited swings in practice today.
The Dodgers used their usual 15odd players for the Spring Training games with only Puig, Gonzalez and Uribe getting hits. Not a bad list.
Team Australia take on the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight in the last warm up game.
